Ashley Fidler

Ashley Fidler is a fiber artist who combines traditional textile methods with unique expression using recycled materials. Since fiber art is fundamentally a feminist practice, it is nearly impossible for a female fiber artist to avoid feminism-related topics in her work. Because what we wear is a form of self-expression, Ashley concentrates on making wearable art pieces. Ashley makes highly contrasted, vibrant wearable art as a statement of assertiveness. The components are heavy and may be difficult to move around in, similar to the heavy burden and limitations of a male-dominated society.

Ashley is a fine arts student at Buffalo State University pursuing a B.F.A. in Fiber Arts. The artist employs a variety of textile techniques, such as twining, wrapping, netting, and weaving using reclaimed fibers. Ashley’s work focuses on wearable art sculptures, although she also likes to practice IKAT weaving, shibori, and fabric painting. Ashley’s wearable art collections were featured at both the Buffalo Art Movement and the Buffalo State RUNWAY exhibits in 2022 and 2023.
