Sculptures by Dianne Baker

I found that materials became much more important and they themselves had the power to serve as a social message : commenting on our abused environment, waste of our consumer society, loss of sense of history and interpersonal relationships.

Dianne Baker is a professional artist in mixed media/sculpture and an arts educator with more than thirty years experience in developing new and challenging forms of contemporary sculpture.

My primary interest in the beginning was in producing fiber related and mixed media “woven forms” utilizing weaving techniques. By the 1980s I needed a different platform, I found that materials became much more important and they themselves had the power to serve as a social message : commenting on our abused environment, waste of our consumer society, loss of sense of history and interpersonal relationships.

I was born in Buffalo, New York, have a B.A. from Syracuse University and a M.S. from State University of New York at Buffalo. Co-owned Fiberfolk Ltd. of Buffalo, fiber store offering materials as well as instruction in fiber arts. Volunteered in the Rental Sales Gallery in Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, New York for 24 years, Am a member of the Buffalo Society of Artists and the Western New York Artists Group, and have been affiliated with galleries in Arizona, California, Illinois, Ohio, Louisiana, and New York City.
