Flowers

``There is beauty to be found in the struggles that accompany us and a reason to look forward to what these rain showers may bring.``

Flowers is a collection of portrait paintings that are meant to capture more than just the resemblance of those depicted. Through the incorporation of narrative, these works portray people and aspects of their individual experience. In order to represent those involved as accurately as possible, I sat down with them to gain a better understanding of who they are. The primary focus in this process was to uncover what overwhelms people and how they attempt to cope with it. Based on their responses, I determined how each person would pose and what symbolism I could use to help share these stories, maintaining a visual thread through the usage of light, water, foliage, and other natural elements.
