Linear Fluidity

These works of art are an exploration into incorporating glass and its aesthetic qualities with the traditional art forms of painting and sculpture. I have a romantic disposition for paintings. They are a historical imprint of an artist’s thought, vision, emotion, and/or idea. I would imagine that these paintings are windows into the walls they hung on and beyond that walls their environment of creation would unfold. Not a big leap considering the geometric shape of a painting combined with my youth as a latchkey kid. If its’ a square or rectangle and has an image, I am expecting it to move, shimmer, or talk.
Being a glass artist for 32 years, I have formed glass to do all those things- move, shimmer, and talk (sing actually). That is the power and beauty of glass. It can be a vessel. It can harness light. It reflects, transmits sound, and creates shelter. It can hide or it can expose. It is a super cool liquid that behaves as a solid. It is for me a perfect vehicle to represent the dichotomy of life/death and the ebb/flow of energy.
My love and respect for these mediums have culminated into this ongoing series Linear Fluidity- an area of surface where flow lines come together into a single path moving in one direction. My hope is that you see/feel the energy the glass embeds into the paintings and acknowledge the symbolism of the glass elements as it flows from each painting representing the living spectrum.
