Liam Kane is a fiber artist and fashion designer exploring texture and form in worn garments. Using old pre-constructed garments as well as raw materials sourced from second hand stores he breathes new life into what would otherwise become rags wasting away in a landfill. Having grown up skateboarding, Liam is no stranger to distressed/damaged clothing and that aesthetic has carried over to his work.
This show is their first real step into the world of gallery exhibition, having only shown work on a few runways including Rochester Fashion Week 2021, BAM’s “Basquiat Meets Bergdorf and Goodman” and Buff States RUNWAY 2023.
“For my whole artistic life I struggled to find a medium that best expressed my ideas. Shortly after experimenting with altering thrifted clothes, I found passion for the way fashion fed my artistic aspirations. Sculpture has been foundational in the way I see and make clothing, now I feel confident that I’ve found my lane in the art world. The next step I’d like to take is finding ways to collaborate with other artists and see where it takes me.”
