Upon the Cave

December 18 - February 12 2020

I spent a lot of time there (in the cave) thinking and painting, and reflecting as I was learning that COVID-19 was changing our lives.

For Fritz Proctor, creating works that capture time and memory as felt physically and mentally, led him back to nature where he found himself surrounded by an orchestra of bats and teasing monkeys in Ratchaburi, Thailand. In recalling his moments within a cave, as he was learning the news about the COVID-19 pandemic, Proctor created a series of works that explores the themes of uncertainty, scale, abstraction and representation to create visual poems that display the intimacy between nature, self and family. At a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to become observant of our own sense of existence, our relationships with others and the need for shelter, it has also led to a collective consciousness of recalling and analyzing what is most important.
