Sherry Arndt proudly resides in Buffalo with her daughter Rhea and their beloved family pet, Meatball. Born in Erie, Pennsylvania into a military family, Arndt quickly learned to adapt to a life always on-the-go. With the ever-changing landscape of location, personalities and cultures, Arndt became interested in the psychology of the human experience, which has extended into her artwork.
In 2009, Arndt began her journey into the art world while mentoring with Mark DiVincenzo. Throughout a ten-year process of learning, researching and experimenting, Arndt developed an unconventional technique for her abstract work. Her paintings are typically vibrant, multilayered and textured. Arndt builds depth and dimension in her work by layering paint with other materials, such as sand, glass and textured mediums. The final step of this process is to pull away paint to reveal layers of materials. The results, always unpredictable, leave a cracked surface that illuminates a “behind the scenes” view of the damage and history that we all hold behind the façade that we present to the world.
